PAKODA, also called pakoda, pakodi, fakkura, bhajiya, bhajji, bhaji or ponako, is a fried snack, originating from South Asia. It is a popular snack across the Indian subcontinent, usually enjoyed during rainy season.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 medium to large-sized onion, 2 medium sized potatoes, 2 medium sized Tomatoes
- 1 cup gram flour (besan)
- 1/2 cup rice powder
- 1 teaspoon green chillies
- ½ teaspoon red chilli powder
- 1 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves
- ½ teaspoon garam masala powder
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds (jeera)
- A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
- 2 teaspoon of Chat Masala
- water as required to make a medium thick batter
- salt to taste
METHOD:
- Take a bowl, mix besan, rice flour, salt, turmeric powder, green chillies, red chilli powder, cumin seeds, hing, garam masala powder.
- Mix all these very well, rice flour is used to make pakoras crisp.
- Add small portion of water to make a thick batter, whisk it well.
- Cut slices of onion, potato & tomato.
- Put sufficient oil in a kadai or pan to fry.
- Now dip the slices in batter one by one & fry them on a low to medium flame.
- Fry them till golden brown, keep it on a kitchen tissue paper to absorb excess oil.
- Sprinkle some Chat masala powder to make it more tempting in taste.
- Serve it hot & crispy with green chutney, making it more favorable with a kulhad chai.
